Fish Makes Healthy and Smart

The increase of public fish consumption is not only mean the increase of nutrition and protein absorbtion. This thing also result the increase of national fish production.

Undeniably that water territory region of Indonesia which width reached 5,8 million km2 and it is promising economic potency especially from fish as source of high nutrition. But it has just around 58,5 percentage of fish sustainable potency reached 6,18 million tonnes per annum which being exploited. This mean optimalisation of marine resources exploitation is still away from our hope. The level of fish consumption of Indonesian people according to the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Freddy Numberi reached 26 kg/capita/annum in 2005.

It is compared to Malaysia which have reached 45 kg/capita/annum, Indonesia is lower. "From now on it is required the movement of fish consume among department because God have created fish, while people ready to take it. But why do fish consumption of Indonesian people still in the low level?" This question arise when the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Freddy Numberi give keynote speech at Inauguration of National Fish Consumption Increase Forum in Jakarta, Wednesday, September 20, 2006.

The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries also said that Indonesian people has to fond of cosuming fish, because they are easy to take. Differ from paddy or cassava which must be planted. Moreover fish is food which contain high nutrition and can add brain intellegence. There is one of example that is Papua. Many people who live in coast, become leader. This proven from Dutch era until now.. Governor of Papua come from Sentani is eating Sentani Lake fish. "Hence regent who live in hinterland ask to be made some fishponds," said Freddy.

The low of fish consumption in this country because of light of offer system and lack of fish supply to areas which far from coast. Through this forum hopefully can communicate inwroughtly and it was the movement of fish consume that Indonesian people will eat fish, so that in the future five or ten years, Indonesian people have better intellegence as does as Japan people. For the purpose, "We have prepared a set packaging of hygienic fish. Possibly people who has money refuse to go to the tarditional market because of dirtiness which can lessen appetite to eat fish", said Freddy.

Meanwhile, Director General of Marketing and Processing of Fisheries Product, Martani Huseini, said that the development of fisheries sector as part of national development is not only aim to increase fisheries. Moreover, it build Indonesian people fully which has settled intellectual, emotional and spiritual and become basic capital for development.

To realize the matter, MMAF specify program of fish consumption improvement as strategic step towards modern Indonesia. Therefore, this program must get support from all parties, especially FORIKAN Indonesia as motivator and inspirator in the effort of increasing fish consumption which will strengthen internal market and public prosperity.

One of the cause of the low of fish consumption is institute pushing improvement of national fish consumption doesn't exist. This thing can't be allowed, but it has to get serious attention from all fisheries stakeholder in merging step to support improvement effort of national fish consumption.

Consume Fish Protected from Disease

More detailed, General Leader of Board of Director of Association National of Indonesia Jasaboga Company, R.A.Hj. Ning Sudjito, ST., said that fish besides the delicious taste, it also contain a real good nutrition for human. Its nutrition contain can cause protected from degeranatif disease like coroner heart, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer.

The protein contain in fish also very good. Based on research, it is found that quality of fish protein is as good as meat protein, lower than egg and better than cereal protein and legume. Fish amino acid can increase quality of other food protein. For example, rice has low lisin amino acid contains, but fish has high lisin rate. So, consume rice with fish, it would be complementary.

Marine fish contain fat, vitamin and mineral, while freshwater fish contain much carbohydrate. Marine fish contain high iodine which reached 830 micrograms per kilogram. Differ from meat which only 50 micrograms and egg 93 micrograms. Besides, marine fish contain omega-3 which is useful reduced kolestrol rate in blood. So, consume marine fish often can prevent aterosklerosis and heart attack. Besides, fatty acid omega-3 and omega-6 in fish can increase child intellegence. This fatty acid also good for pregnant mother which can form foetus muscle. Hence, it is suggested for pregnant mother to consume a lot of fish.

Marine fish liver oil also become source of vitamins A and D. Vitamin A in fish oil is easy to absorb. By giving fish liver oil for baby can fullfill requirement of vitamin A and D and also Omega-3. Marine fish also contain many flour. For children which get flour enough in food, it make their tooth more healthy. Hence, it is seldom met child with toothache who live in coast because they consume many marine fish.

Movement of fish consumption being targeted by MMAF actually also has a wide meaning. The increasing of level of fish consumption of for people also mean to increase national fish product.. National fish production in 2005 has just reached 4.970.010 tonnes, and national fish production target this year reached 7,7 million tonnes. According to Freddy Numberi, this year, per capita fish consumption level will increase become around 28 kgs. It is compared to 2005, hence there will be improvement around 2 kgs per capita.

If it is assumed, number of Indonesian residents reached around 220 million, hence fish production to fulfill requirement for internal affairs will reach 440 million or around 440 thousand tonnes. Market absorpsion will increase as much as that mention this year, when level of fish consumption of public/people increase as much as it is expected.
